Making a gift where most needed helps the AGS Foundation achieve its mission to support glaucoma research and education, and to promote excellence in the care of patients with glaucoma.
AGS Cares is a public service program supported by the AGS Foundation that is dedicated to providing surgical glaucoma care at no cost to uninsured or underserved patients. Glaucoma care is provided by members of a national network of volunteers comprising glaucoma surgeons who are AGS members.
AGS Family Matters is a public service program supported by the AGS Foundation that connects first-degree relatives of glaucoma patients to physicians who can provide free glaucoma screening. First-degree relatives have up to a 10-fold higher risk of glaucoma than the general population and catching glaucoma in its early stages significantly reduces the risk of future vision loss.
The George L. Spaeth, MD International Glaucoma Fellowship Fund was launched in late 2022, to honor and celebrate the career of AGS’s first president and one of its founders, Dr. George Spaeth. This program will fund a US Glaucoma Specialist to travel to a developing country, to help foster and promote excellence in Glaucoma care in the developing world.
AGS Clinician Scientist Grants encourage the development of young and mid-career clinician scientists in glaucoma by providing funding for research projects with a goal of optimizing care for glaucoma patients with hopes to find a cure.
This multi-faceted mentoring program fulfills the mission of the AGS by supporting early career glaucoma specialists and scientists by providing tools and resources to further their careers as potential leaders in the science, research and the specialty of glaucoma care.
The Alan Crandall International Humanitarian Travel Award supports early-career international glaucoma specialists from underserved communities by providing mentorship and professional development opportunities within AGS. The award covers travel and registration for the AGS Annual Meeting.
A program Initiative for Networking and Support of Prospective Individuals Underrepresented in Resident Education The American Glaucoma Society (AGS) is dedicated to fostering diversity within the field of ophthalmology and vision research, ensuring that it reflects the diverse populations we serve. This initiative supports ophthalmology residents in their PGY1-3 years from diverse backgrounds, including those Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM), first-generation students, LGBTQ+ individuals, and persons with disabilities. Through this program, we provide opportunities for these residents to attend our annual scientific meeting, with the goal of inspiring and encouraging the next generation of diverse talent in the field of glaucoma.
